From marching and pep bands, to the lofty notes of the Olympic anthem and commercial sound of televised sports, music has always had a place in sports.  Though DJDeedle couldn't name a single football, basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer player, whether professional or amateur, he devotes this week's Deedlecast to the unmistakable sound and music of sport.

Did you ever have the feeling you knew what someone was going to say before they said it? 

Ever felt like you've heard that song before? 

Maybe you have.  But not like this. 

An "anthem" is usually a rousing popular song that typifies or is identified with a particular subculture, movement, or point of view.  These anthems are merely intended to bring you to your feet.

It seems that every town in America at one time had a Kiss FM.  And in the days before ipods and satellite radio, no matter what city your Kiss FM was in, it had a Saturday night party broadcast for those too young, too shy, or too boring to leave the house.   The broadcast was a mix of pop cheese and tunes you could dance to. 

This week's show is a salute to those broadcasts, but with a little update and DJDeedle's touch.

With all the kids now back in school, DJDeedle decided they deserved a short break from their academic rigor.  Your dj has vivid memories of coming home from elementary school, and watching cartoons in the afternoon with the younger brother. So, DJDeedle presents "Cartoonish," a  collection of cartoony-tunes and cartoon-inspired riffs.

Note:  This Deedlecast, unlike most of the others, is Rated G, and suitable for children of all ages.  Parents, please monitor the volume on your child's mp-3 player. Oh, and everyone, please don't forget to brush your teeth.

Because I had a couple of requests, I'm posting this DJDeedle original as a single.  It's a mashup of "Saved by Zero" by the Fixx and the very obscure classic from the 80's, "Don Quichotte" by Magazine 60.  Let me tell you, it was no easy feat finding "Don Quichotte." It was wildly popular in El Paso, TX in the mid 1980's when Deedle was a a mere teenaged music fan, and got extensive airplay before evaporating into obscurity. 

Smashing soundwaves with a rock beat, this Deedlecast twists some recognizable favorites and a few obscure classics with a welcome, sometimes heavy, and always unique sound. 

This week, DJDeedle brings you another continuous house mix. This mix has it all.  If you've been wanting to hear it, it's in the mix.

Madonna's been creating hit after hit for over 25 years now.  And whether we like it or not, her sound is an indelible part of America and its pop music.

COMMON SENSE CAUTION:  It's pretty much guaranteed that anything having to do with Madonna will push the boundaries of good taste and sexual modesty.  This Deedlecast is no exception, and should not disappoint in this regard. 

House music has been described as a very rhythmically based electronic or synthesized music that uses a continuous, repeating (usually also electronically generated) 4/4 bassline. Typically added to this foundation are electronically generated sounds and samples of music such as jazz, blues and synth pop, as well as additional percussion.

Your humble dj knows that this definition just doesn't really capture the essence of the musical genre.  Rather, anyone who really understands house music knows that "House is a Feeling."

Many of you may remember Ambience Chasers from the days when DJDeedle worked in the cd format.  This is a Deedlecast length cut from the full album.

Deedlecast comes to you this week and next from the beautiful island of Kaua'i, where your dj and the long-suffering one are basking in the sun and taking to the waves.  One of our favorite island activities, surfing, is a way of life for many Hawaiians.  This Deedlecast is devoted entirely to the music of surfing.  As you listen, picture yourself riding the perfect wave to a perfect beach. 

Developed from some of DJDeedle's live performances, this Deedlecast is designed for the After 11:00 PM crowd.  It's a little rock, a little hip-hop, bit of disco, and a touch of rap, just the mix to move the dinner crowd to the bar. 

But with Deedlecast, you don't need to wait until after 11:00 to enjoy it.

Note:  The kids should be in bed well before 11:00PM, so they won't hear any of the rude words appearing in this Deedlecast.

As is customary at the start of a new year, this week's Deedlecast reflects on the past to music from a simpler, more carefree, time.  It was a period in American history when the only things we worried about were the creep of international communism and complete and utter nuclear destruction at the hands of the decidedly less fashionable Soviet Union.  Ah, the memories.  Good times. 

Here it is, the last Deedlecast of 2006, it's inaugural year. Not to worry, though. DJDeedle has all sorts of great things already planned for 2007. And though some may do it better, no one brings it to every week like your humble dj. Fruitcakes are an amalgamation and conglomeration of all kinds of things, some of which should never be placed in or near a cake.  This Deedlecast is an amalgamation and conglomeration of holiday music and all kinds of unlikely tunes that you'd never have thought belonged together.

Unlike a fruitcake, however, you'll want to experience this mix over and over again and share it with friends and family. Like fruitcake, though, you'll want to avoid putting this Deedlecast in your mouth if you can help it. 

Caution:  Those who have an allergy to holidays may find that this Deedlecast may cause you to enjoy the holidays . . . even if just a little bit.

Warning:  Justin uses a rude term in this Deedlecast.  But then, what do you expect?

Willie Nelson, U-2, Pussycat Dolls, INXS, Harry Belafonte, the Bangles, the Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Eminem, Shakira, C&C Music Factory, Johnny Cash, Will Smith, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Isaak . . .  What in the world are they doing in one place, let alone the same songs?  This is truly confused.   Trust your dj, though, it works!
